The Providence Expansion is an 8.54 megawatt project that takes advantage of additional methane gas being produced by the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation Johnston Landfill, where Ridgewood’s existing 12 megawatt project is located.

The expansion was being developed in two phases.  Phase one (shown above), with 2.54 megawatts of capacity is constructed adjacent to the existing 12 megawatt plant owned by Power Trusts 3 & 4.

Phase two of the project, shown in the photos below when it was under construction, added an additional 6.0 megawatts of capacity.  The Providence Expansion Project sells its electricity output on the open market and generates additional revenue from Renewable Energy Certificates. The output of the project also generates federal tax credits for investors.
